Cometkit sat down in the center of RavineClan's new camp. The conflicting emotions within her seemed far beyond her age... At nearly six moons, she should be bouncing about and pestering the leader for her mentor. Instead, she flicked her small brown ears back and forth and leaned down to lick her fluffy belly.
Her amber eyes seemed distant. For once, she wasn't chattering nonstop... And the camp seemed grateful. In the sunhigh light, the apprentices were out training. The medicine cat's den was silent except for the faint sound of Silverhawk muttering to himself. From where the elder's slept behind a fallen log, the soft snores of Darkrain and Dreamkit could be heard as mother and daughter shared a much-needed nap.
In the last moon, Dreamkit had started taking over Cometkit's place as the camp's loudest kit. She and her two sisters bounced about noisily at just about any hour of the day. Waterkit was always slipping into the warriors den, just to see if her father was in there. Dreamkit had made a new hobby of trying to sneak into Rainwhisker's den. The difference between them and Cometkit was that those three seemed content to stay in camp. Well, that and everyone seemed fond of the actions of those three, where they'd gotten quickly angry with Cometkit.
She couldn't tell yet whether they favored Sorrelkit, Dreamkit, and Waterkit because they were Cheetahthorn and Darkrain's kits, or if it was just because Cometkit wasn't as sweet or cute. The brown she-cat wasn't sure she wanted to be seen as cute or sweet... She wanted to be respected. But her tongue always seemed to get the best of her. Lately, she'd been trying very hard to say nothing at all, out of fear she'd say something wrong and never become an apprentice... [/blockquote]

For Bearkit, he wasn't sure whether he was looking forward to getting a mentor and becoming an apprentice. What warrior would want to look after an apprentice who was blind in one eye anyway? He would hate to be a burden on anyone, but knew, they would never tell him that. His lime green eyes reflected concern and worry over his predicament. He didn't even know if he wanted to be a warrior anyway. Did this clan have any place for him? He could talk to mother about it, but wasn't sure if she would understand. After all, she had her hands full with Cometkit anyway.
Speaking of Cometkit, Bearkit paused to see his sister sitting in the center of the camp, appearing as if she was thinking deeply. He couldn't decide whether to go over to her, or make his way back to his mother. Making up his mind, Bearkit ambled over to his sister with his slow lumbering movements and sat down. "Hey there Cometkit," he said. He was never sure what to expect from her...sometimes she treated him nicely and other times she had a tongue sharp enough to cut his ear off. But he knew she didn't really mean it. Bearkit thought that no father and a somewhat distant mother affected Cometkit too, just as much as it did him. But in very different ways.

Cometkit didn't look up at first. She'd been so lost in her thoughts that she hadn't noticed him coming over. She refursed to jump in surprise though. So she merely lifted her head slowly from her cleaning, glancing at the camp entrance instead of him.
Despite his disability, Bearkit was the lucky one...Everyone was careful around him, always making sure he was comfortable. Once, Cometkit had overheart Dreamkit asking her mother if Bearkit would become a warrior. The old queen had surprised her kit in exclaiming loudly that the tom-kit had better become a warrior! Cometkit had also been surprised. Since when had everyone wanted Bearkit to become a warrior so badly? Once more, she felt a wave of self-pity roll over her. No one cared who her mentor would be. She'd probably end up with Beepaw as a mentor, even though he'd only have been a warrior a few days by that point... Cometkit had expected her heiritage to give her more attention, but it had done the opposite. Everyone expected her to sink or swim on her own. Apparently normal kits didn't need any attention!
"You're so lucky!" she suddenly exclaimed in anger, turning her amber gaze to her brother. "Darkrain'll probably come out of retirement just to train you!" Her voice wasn't completely angry, though. It was more sad and upset, a sudden glimpse at the turmoil going on inside the young she-kit. [/blockquote]

ooc: beepaw would be a fun mentor!
Bearkit's eyes widened in surprise, his green eyes slightly dumbfounded at his sister's reaction. He knew she was a bit unpredictable, but seriously, he had hardly any idea what she was talking about. He assumed it was about mentors...after all, their ceremony would be any day now that they were nearly 6 moons old. He had suspected that was a pressing matter in her mind. He thought about it alot too, but he thought about it differently. He wasn't even sure if he was looking forward to it.
"Naw, I doubt it," he answered, trying to play off her anger casually, sitting down besides her. "You know that's not true. I have no idea who my mentor will be, but not Darkrain. She has other things to do," he added, pausing to lick his chest a few times. "I'm sure your mentor will be really good, Rainwhisker knows what he is doing," Bearkit said.

She didn't look over at him. "Why not Darkrain? She's patient, experienced, and equally as... different. Besides, her kits are plenty old enough to be alone for a while durring the day. Cheetahthorn keeps an eye on them all the time." She grinded her teeth together in frustration. "Good mentor?! There are no good mentors left!" she exclaimed, finally turning her gaze back to him. They were narrowed this time, her turmoil now hidden behind anger.
"I'll be lucky to have Mum as a mentor. Or maybe they'll just give me to a warrior who already has one apprentice." She turned her gaze away again, glaring in the direction of Rainwhisker's den... [/blockquote]

He shrugged. "I wouldn't worry about it too much. Everyone knows you are going to be a good warrior. And Beepaw will be a warrior soon too. So Rainwhisker will be free and there are others too. They won't give me special treatment. I don't know if I want to be a warrior anyway..." he said, trailing off. Maybe his words will infuriate Cometkit, but this was Bearkit. He couldn't imagine getting a special mentor or being placed above his sister. After all, she was the one with courage and she would grow into a great warrior. He would always be slow and behind everyone else. She would probably have an apprentice by the time he was a warrior.
"Besides, Mom won't take you, she'd be too nice," he commented with a smile, the first one in days. Bearkit rarely smiled. He never just smiled for no purpose, he always had to have a reason. Why do something just to make others happy?

A small, silver and white furred object was rolling around, waving his long-ish paws in the air. It seemed as if he was trying to bat someone away, someone who was pouncing at him playfully, but noone was there. He had a huge smile on his face, and his bright blue eyes were sparkling. He was laughing, silently, before he rolled onto his stomach, and pounced onto air. Noone was watching him...nobody was ever watching him. So Rootpaw played with Flower, a huge grin on his face, his tail waving in excitement. Hardly anybody treated him like an apprentice- they thought that he was the foolish kit with an imaginary friend. So what? He didn't care. He just wanted to be friends with Flower, and to love life, and train. Nothing else...right?

A medium-size calico she-cat watched over the camp. She licked her paw nonchalantly, humming softly to herself. Sun-high light shone warmly on her back sending a smile down her spine. Everyone seemed to have settled in nicely. The journey felt so far behind them now, at least now that they were here. The RavineClan camp seemed to suit the clan wonderfully. Every cat appeared pleased with their dens. They had all put a lot of work into it, putting up bramble barriers to further protect the camp.
Swifteyes observed the kits chattering away about mentors. She had forgotten how old they've become. It seemed like only a day ago when they were just tiny balls of fluff bouncing around. She sighed, perhaps no cat could stop such a silly argument. Her ice blue eyes flicked around the camp once more, resting on the warriors den. Where had Chasmstride run off to? She longed to share this beautiful day with her mate.
Rainwhisker padded out from the leader's den, trotting over to the fresh-kill pile. His steps bounced with an upbeat cheeriness. He grabbed himself a plump mouse and went to sit by Swifteyes.
"Good afternoon, Swifteyes." He greeted with a warm smile. He took a bite out of his meal and cleared all of the juicy meat from his mouth before continuing. "How are you on this beautiful day?"
Swifteyes dipped her head and smiled back. Rainwhisker seemed to be so much more friendly than other leaders. They always seemed so direct but this tom was different. She enjoyed how he was polite, but open and friendly. Her mind flicked back to Chasmstride.
"I'm doing fine, thank you." She replied, her smile twitching for a brief moment. Rainwhisker nodded in agreement. His actions provided a good enough expression for his current feelings today. "You wouldn't have happened to see Chasmstride around, would you?"
Rainwhisker stole a moment to think. "No, I don't believe I have." He replied. "Perhaps he's out hunting? I'm sure he'll show up soon." He quickly finished his fresh-kill, then nodded to the warrior. Swifteyes nodded back and Rainwhisker departed from the scene.
Cream colored paws stepped quickly out of the apprentice's den. Worried blue eyes hurried around the camp. The small apprentice, named Treepaw, took a breath before she rushed forward. Terrible! Absolutely terrible! How could she pick today, of all days, to sleep in? Well it was an accident, perhaps Morninglight would understand. But what if her mentor had planned to train today? Treepaw had nearly slept half the day away! Gulping she quietly padded over to her brother, Rootpaw. Her head tilted to one side as she watched his strange movements.
"What are you doing?" Her voice flowed gently, with an innocent and caring twinge to each word.

Rootpaw hadn't noticed much of anything, really, not even his mentor's appearance. Most apprentices would have been badgering their mentor relentlessly at this point, but Rootpaw, at the moment, was having too much fun. Hearing a voice, he stopped, sitting up abruptly. Flower, who was a striking white and cream she-cat, blinked her bright blue eyes at Treepaw and lowered her head.
"Nothing." Rootpaw replied quietly, quickly, wrapping his tail around his paws and looking down as well, before glancing up. He wondered what his sister thought of him, of how foolish he was. He didn't know where Flower had come from, and didn't know why nobody else could see her. All he knew was that she was his friend. He didn't even see the uncanny resemblance in Flower to his deceased mother, Softflower.
"I was just...practicing my fighting moves, is all. Have you been out training yet, today?" He asked, standing and stretching his limbs experimentally. He sat next to his sister, licking her cheek fur affectionately. He really did love all of his siblings, with his entire heart.
"Maybe we could see if our mentors take us out together, if Swifteyes isn't busy. She might be looking for Chasmstride." He said this last part with a half-sigh, half-joking feel to the statement. Flower was up again, playing teasingly with his tail, batting it back and forth.

A sandy blur zipped from the apprentice dens and to the opening of the clearing. It slowed down to reveal a beige and black striped tom, his hazel eyes shimmering excitedly. His face fell slightly though, when he discovered his mentor was no where to be found. "Mouse dung," he muttered, deciding to take this time to eat a real mouse. Perhaps Rainwhisker was avoiding him...but Beepaw wouldn't blame him. He had been lately, rather enthusiastic about his training. He knew he was so close to becoming a warrior and every moment of training brought him closer to his goal. His tail brushed the dusty ground eagerly. He wondered what his name would be...Beestripe, Beewing, Beesting, Beeflight, so many options. Yet what would reflect the true him, the message he would want to portray. His sister, jokingly, told him to "Beegone". Somehow...he thought that Rainwhisker would pick a better name then that.
A slender golden female stretched in the warrior's den, got up, and made her way outside. Emerald eyes brushed over the surroundings, resting on her young apprentice. Morninglight wasn't worried, the day was young, and she was looking forward to training. Treepaw seemed eager to learn and well-mannered. After Beepaw, she would be a breeze to the seasoned Morninglight on apprentice antics. Morninglight would also have the support of the other warriors as well as the other mentors who were taking on kits. She padded over to Treepaw, smiling warmly and sitting beside her and her brother. "Hello there," she said in greeting. "Ready to train today? Maybe Swifteyes will come with us."

Cometkit considered her brother's words for a moment. Sure, Rainwhisker would be apprenticeless, but would he really take another one with so much going on in the forest? She highly doubted it. Her ears tilted backwards in discomfort and annoyance. She stood and stalked back to the nursery without a word.
But she didn't appear so angry as usual. Her tail didn't lash back and forth, nor did she give Bearkit some snarky retort. Back in their den, she curled up in her den, wishing she had at least one friend in the clan to talk to openly...
A small form had suddenly woken from her nap. She slipped careful and quietly from her mother's side and stalked out of the elder's den. Her mismatched eyes caught sight of a lovely prey, and she flicked her tail in delight. Crouching down, she started to move very slowly forward. Suddenly, she broke into a scattered run, leaping playfully forward to land a kittenstep behind Bearkit. Her small paw shot out and touched with a pat that seemed altogether anti-climactic. Still, a grin lit up Dreamkit's face.
"Hiya, Bearkit!" she cried in greeting to her friend.
Finally! He stood and slipped from the warriors' den, his amber eyes focused on a lanky tabby tom. Flicking his tail in slight annoyance, the bulky warrior shadowed the smaller cat, twitching one ear to the side in a questioning frown.
Brownspot seemed far too large standing behind the skinny young tom, but he didn't seem to notice. One ear tilted to the other side as it listened to Swifteyes' words with Rainwhisker. "Well?" he demanded, finally speaking aloud. "Were you not told that you had an assessment this morning?" he questioned, hoping he'd startled the apprentice pretty good. He didn't want Beepaw thinking that everything was going to be just hunky-dory now that he'd reached the moon of his warrior ceremony. [/blockquote]

Bearkit watched his sister depart with one good lime green eye, wishing he knew the right things to say. But again, their conversation had ended with silence. He wished he had a better relationship with his sister; with their father gone and their mother's distant independance, they needed each other. He shook his head slightly with a tinge of sadness.
His present mood evaporated with the appearance of his friend Dreamkit and her attempted "hunt". He whirled around, his face uplifting slightly in a smile. "Hello there Dreamkit," he responded, sitting down and combing down in startled fur. "That was some stealthing," he commented, his eyes bright.
Beepaw flinched in surprise, his hazel eyes widening but relaxing when he saw it was Brownspot. He furrowed his eyes in concentration at Brownspot's question and then responded brightly," Nope! Can't say that anyone told me," he said cheerfully twitching his tail back and forth. Brownspot seemed to be annoyed with him already, wouldn't they be a cheerful pair! He grinned. "But I suppose I know now," he added. "So I'm ready!"

"Hullo, Morninglight." Rootpaw's voice was quiet and shy, as the young tom scuffled his paws in the dirt, marring the white fur that went all up his paw. He glanced at Treepaw before muttering something about finding Swifteyes and turning away, trotting towards the center of camp at a quick pace.
Once he was about four tail-lengths away, Rootpaw slowed, breathing a sigh of relief. Talking with his siblings was one thing. Talking with her mentor was another...the only adult cat he really liked talking to was Swifteyes, and his mother. At the thought of Softflower Rootpaw's throat choked up, and he violently shoved such thoughts away.
Sighing, he looked around, wishing that Swifteyes were here so that they could train.

A purr sounded from Dreamkit at Bearkit's compliment. "Silverhawk showed it to me," she replied, beaming with young pride. Her ear twitched to the side. The scent of Cometkit was fresh on Bearkit... Had they been arguing again...? But Bearkit didn't seem too terribly upset, so it couldn't have been too bad.
Still, the small she-kit glanced towards the nursery questioningly. There was no reply, of course, but she gazed towards the den for a moment before turning back to Bearkit. "Well? Has Rainwhisker said who'll be your mentor yet?" A grin lit up her small face. She didn't seem to have realized that Bearkit being an apprentice meant they wouldn't be able to play together very often.
"You'll be a warrior in no time!" she exclaimed suddenly, prancing around his side. "They'll name you Bear... Bear.... Bearpelt!" It took her a moment to come up with a name, but she seemed proud of it all the same. "Bearpelt, oh mighty warrior!" She spoke with a serious, grave voice, but broke it by bursting out into a giggle. A sudden idea lit up her face. "Wanna practice? Being a warrior, I mean."
She took a small step back, crouching down with her tail in the air. A small growl escaped her, and she grinned at him.
A look of slight disbelief showed on Brownspot's face. It wasn't like Rainwhisker to not tell his apprentice what was going on. He opened his mouth to object, when a noise across camp caused him to look up. Tiny Dreamkit was crouching down near a slightly larger Bearkit. Of course! Raccoonpelt's kits would be getting their mentors soon enough, that must have become a weighty topic on Rainwhisker's mind. Satisfied, the bulky warrior turned away, padding towards the camp's exit. He flicked his tail lightly for Beepaw to follow.
He paused very briefly at the camp enterance, though. His amber eyes flickered back to the warriors' den before he dipped his head in an almost unseen gesture before turning and trotting from the camp.

"No I haven't..." Treepaw replied. "That sounds like a good idea, though." She smiled at her brother then turned to look at her mentor. "Hello, Morninglight. I suppose Swifteyes is around here somewhere." The apprentice looked around for her brother's mentor, quickly spotting her not too far from where they stood. "She's just over there, no need to get anxious, Rootpaw." Treepaw caught Swifteyes' eyes (xD...only I would find this slightly amusing...) and motioned with her tail for the warrior to join them.
Swifteyes quickly picked herself up and trotted over to the small group of cats. She completely forgot about her apprentice. She shrugged off her minor Chasmstride dilemma and placed a cheerful smile on her face. "Hey Rootpaw do you want to go training today?" Her smile turned sheepish as she realized that was probably why Treepaw invited her over. "Well if you do we better get going before it gets too late!"
"Morninglight and I were planning on joining you." Treepaw added, before looking over at her mentor. "Right?" The young she-cat wondered what they would be learning today. She hoped it wasn't fighting, she definitely wasn't ready for that. Rootpaw would crush her instantly!
Rainwhisker nearly tripped over himself because of his sudden realization. Instead he swerved over to Beepaw, almost toppling over his apprentice. He cleared his throat before speaking. "Beepaw!" He started hiding his slight embarrassment. "You have an assessment today! Well...I forgot to tell you. Unless you were already informed! But that's alright!" He stumbled over his words before shaking his head lightly to snap out this chain reaction of mistakes.
