Drowning, drowning, drowning in a sea of gold he was. The patchy slate tom rolled about on his back, his legs in the air. Ash was drowning and couldn't be saved! He snorted a laugh and rolled to his feet, standing and shaking the water from his fur. In truth, he was splashing about like a kit in a small puddle, which only made his dirt covered, flea-ridden pelt even more matted with fresh mud.
His pale eyes whirled around. All he could see was the golden waves of a sea of grasses and wheat. It grew far above his head and made his eyes spin with confusion. So what else would he do? Ash was trapped in a prison of gold, drowning in a sea of bright growth. He sniffed about momentarily, then shrugged. Nothing else to do. So once again, though shortly after he had taken time to scratch behind his ear, he plopped over in the mud and water and rolled about.
Thrashing about, he flopped like a fish from side to side, laughing all the while. Finally, he stopped on his back and stared up at the sky, though the edges of his sight were tinted gold with the tips of the grasses. The sky was quite clear. For Leaf-fall it was rather warm. Why, it was what could have been considered a...
But he dared not think those words. If he did, they would echo about him until he went completely insane and he would have to plug his ears and close his eyes, or run off and get lost in the golden grass. He might have to run in circles, maybe fall into a twitching spell. All just from thinking about this nice day! ...Fox dung..!
Ash sat up quickly, dripping mud and water from his sides. He looked around with wide eyes. Nice day... His ear iched so he paused to scratch it. Quite the nice day. He shook his head and closed his eyes, shooting into the golden grasses. Nice day, nice day... Stop it, stop it, stop it! The tom ran right into a skinny tree, bouncing back from it. Looking up as it vibrated and shed a few leaves, he slowly smiled again. His paw placed gently upon his head, right where he hit the tree, he watched them fall to the ground. Oooh...
Ash blinked up at the tree, almost expectantly. Thinking for a moment, his mind snapped to a solution. He would just have to hit the tree again! Backing up, Ash rammed head-first into the tree, then placed his paw on his head again. That really hurt! But he had gotten what he wanted.
How silly he must've looked, leaping about with one paw on his head and the other snatching leaves from the air. He frowned when no more fell down. There was nothing to it, though!
For a third time, he headbutted the tree, this time bloodying his forehead. Stopping to scratch again, he then flipped about after the leaves, ignoring the pain in his head. This was too fun!
He jumped and flipped and twisted in the air, hooking leaf after leaf on his claws. And then he discovered they wouldn't come off. So he continued to bounce and twist even after the leaves stopped falling, flailing his paws ferociously to try and get those darned leaves off! Darn, darn, darn! They were stuck good! He landed for one last time and snatched the leaves in his mouth, ripping them right off. With that frustration gone, he relaxed and smiled again.
Wasn't he going somewhere? Oh yeah! Ash recalled wanting to go to a certain place, but that puddle had been so tempting... He grinned and thought of that place. Yeah... He should go now. The dark gray tom stood and headed off through the golden grass again, just noticing how much his head was stinging. And what could've caused that?
((Is a little sucky... =< But I have had a bad writer's block hanging over me. ^^' I have managed to fill it with pointless rambling, but that's kind of Ash's thing. XD ))[/size]
