The sun rose higher in the sky, shining down on the territory of TealClan, although the air was still crisp and cool, despite the late morning sun. The she-cat made hardly a sound as she padded through the dense trees of the forest. Despite the thick foliage, the sun shone down onto her dark red coat and gave it a ginger gleam. She paused for a moment, her ears twitching slightly, hoping that she wasn’t going to fast. She knew that Wolfstep and Whiteshadow could easily keep up with her large strides, but she didn’t want to leave Littlefeather behind. After all, they had to help her find herbs as well as bring back fresh kill. Her ears perked as she heard the tale-tell sign of bubbling water. Most likely that would be an ideal place to find prey. She sat down on her haunches and curled her tail around her paws, hoping to discuss what the plan was with the others.
Sunstreak glanced around the forest with curious brown eyes down to the beaten trails that lay under her paws. The forest was familiar yet strange at the same time. She still called it a home, but it was odd not to be hunting in the territory that had brought her in and raised her off the streets. She had come a long way since her rogue beginnings, scouranging for food off the streets and just making ends meet day by day. She was so young when she was inducted into the clan, she faintly could remember a ginger-pelted mother and a skinny dark tom named Soot that she was friends with. Her kit name had almost completely disappeared from her mind. Now she was a warrior with a family within the clan. She smiled remembering her earliest memory, running frantically to her mentor, just mere moons old, as his kits were being born. She had never expected that would be a happy event for her, a scowling moody apprentice at that time. Now Wolfstep was one of her good friends and she would always be fond of her old mentor Eveningrain.
Her heart beat a little faster when she thought of Wolfstep. She had previously been angry with him, especially when she had become a warrior. She had wanted him to celebrate with her, but instead, he became more withdrawn and distant. Now it seemed like they were friends again after his transition into Wolfstep. But Sunstreak couldn’t ignore how her paws shook or her skin flushed whenever he smiled. She assumed he did not feel the same way, especially since he hardly looked her in the eye anymore. Really, she shouldn’t even be surprised. He could find any cat so she could hardly expect him to choose her over any other she-cat in the clan. But still, it would be nice to spend time with him this morning and with the other cats in the clan.
