It was just another day, but not an ordinary one to the ginger warrior lounging around camp. It was another day of her newfound status as a warrior. No longer would she need permission from her mentor. Now she could earn respect and serve her clan in the best way she possibly could, better then if she was just an apprentice. Even being in a brand new territory, Sunstreak felt oddly at ease and safe, wrapped around her warrior name. It was a comfort to know, that even in these strange times, she could take care of herself. She didn't like feeling weak or helpless, and her warrior name gave her all the strength in the world.
The she-cat glanced around camp with rich chocolate brown eyes. She was glad to see it looked much more like a camp now, like a home. The sun shone down on her cinnamon fur and brought out its natural reddish highlights and she let out a content purr. Today was just another day, but not to her.

A small tom slunk into camp, hoping no one noticed him. His long fur was still damp and pine needles stuck to him. He glanced about. Not noticing anyone, he hurried out towards the center of the camp and sat down to clean the dirt and debre from his striped fur.
He was squated over, licking his belly when he noticed Sunstreak. The apprentice's ears burned with embarrassment. Surely she'd ask why he'd been out of camp alone... Ears tilted back, he pretended not to have noticed her and returned to cleaning. Maybe she just wouldn't say anything... [/blockquote]

If Wolfpaw thought that Sunstreak wouldn't say anything, he was sorely mistaken. The warrior took in the state of his coat with curious brown eyes and couldn't help but ask," Hey Wolfpaw, what's up with you?" She lacked tact and didn't believe in just sitting there and wondering what was going on. If she had a question, she would certainly ask it. Even if it did look like he didn't want to answer. But that was Sunstreak. Never one to mince words. Besides, asking what was up was Sunstreak's casual way of asking. She could have asked, what's wrong with your coat and why were you outside of camp...
Why wouldn't he want to talk to her anyway? They were friends right? They had been friends for awhile now, after all, Wolfpaw was the son of her old mentor, and she had always been around him. Even their changes in status wouldn't prevent them from being friends.

He felt his ears burn once more. Of course, she did ask... He looked slowly up as if he hadn't noticed her there. "Huh? Oh, nothing much. J-just cleaning..." He looked quickly back down at his messy gray fur, ears tilted lightly back.
He prayed none of his siblings showed up right then. With the condition of his pelt, plus the awkwardness of his reply, they'd surely tease him. Except maybe Whitepaw, who'd merely offer to help him...
Still, he didn't want to get into that situation, so he looked up and asked, "Erm, have you seen Nightrain? We were supposed to go fishing today..." Part of him wanted to quickly be out of her presense, but another part of him revelled in just being around her. Sunstreak seemed like a completely different cat now that she was a warrior. She wasn't just his apprentice pal, who he'd tag around with all the time; she was a full-flegded warrioress now... [/blockquote]

She looked him up and down once again. "Yea, you must have really gotten into a mess," she commented cheerfully. "To need that much cleaning. Probably your long fur isn't a help either," she added, completely stating the obvious. She had a knack for that. Maybe because she was raised without a family and any siblings, she hadn't developed the ablity to read feelings very well. Survival was much more important.
Her face furrowed in thought. "Ermm nope, havn't seen him. The camp seems very empty. I havn't seen a soul besides you around. It's very quiet," she commented, looking around camp and then back to him. "So what is it like being an apprentice now?" she asked, with a smile. "That seems like a long time ago for me," she added with a laugh. "Your dad was a great mentor, I'll miss that."

Wolfpaw looked slowly up at her, blinking in surprise. What was it like being an apprentice? Was she just teasing him, or was she serious? Had she forgotten that he'd been an apprentice for a moon and a half now? He looked away, forcing a smile.
"S'alright. Nightrain doesn't take me swimming as much as I'd like, but... I manage." He flashed her a genuine smile before turning his dark brown eyes back to his mess of tabby fur. He also felt glad his mother wasn't there. She'd have ran out to fuss over him and insist to clean his fur. He wasn't a kit anymore! Of course, if Nightrain were there, he'd probably ask how Wolfpaw got so messy if he hadn't snuck out of camp alone again... So, Wolfpaw felt at least a little glad it was Sunstreak he was stuck in camp with...

She nodded at his response. "There is alot of stuff to do now, I'm sure Nightrain is just extremely busy. Eveningrain didn't take me out as much as I wanted either, but that's ok. I knew he was busy with his kits and I got along alright. You'll be a warrior sooner then you think anyway. Time flies as an apprentice," she added, brushing her ginger fur down with one paw.
She followed his eyes back down to his fur. "So, how did you get so messy?" she asked, unable to hold in her curiosity any longer. You couldn't have gotten that dirty in camp, that's for sure," she added honestly. She had really meant not to ask him, but she couldn't help herself. Besides, she would never get him in trouble. She may be a warrior, but she was still his friends. He could trust her.

He shrugged lightly. She had no idea how much time he spent alone... Not always because Nightrain was busy, but because Wolfpaw was always sneaking off. He hadn't formed many bonds outside TealClan along the Journey, so he only felt pure joy at living in a single place. In fact, he revelled in it. He'd go hunting often all by himself, quite often learning more from experience than what his mentor taught him...
He glanced up at her and quickly looked back down, his ears tilting back uncomfortably. "I, er, went swimming..." It was against the clan's rules for an apprentice to go swimming without supervision, but Wolfpaw still did it often. Unfortunately, dirt and pine needles always stuck to his wet fur afterwards, an open sign to everyone that he'd broken the rules... [/blockquote]

Her eyes grew slightly wider. Of course she knew that was against the rules, but Sunstreak had sympathy for him. After all, she didn't like following rules either when she first came to TealClan as an older kit. Luckily, Eveningrain was extremely patient with her and she found a balance between her own time and her duty to the clan. She couldn't ban him from swimming...after all she wasn't his mentor and she didn't want him to think of her as a bossy warrior. "Well, just be careful," she mewed. "I wouldn't want to see you get hurt," she added, a slight tone of worry in her voice, but she let it drop after that.
Even Sunstreak, who was oblivious to feelings, had noticed a slight akwardness between her and Wolfpaw. Maybe her warrior status was a bigger obstacle then she had originally thought. Maybe he didn't want to be her friend anymore...now that things had changed.

Wolfpaw felt his ears burn again when she spoke once more. Did she say that as a friend, or...? He assumed it was just as a friend, which made his ears burn even more. He stood, flicking his fluffy tail. Shaking, the worst of the dirt and pine needles fell from his fur, making him look mildly acceptable.
"Er, well I'd better go find Nightrain. He might be waiting for me..." He took a few steps towards the exit, then paused. His tail flicked slightly to the side and he glanced over his shoulder. "Seeya." And then he quickly slipped away, at least somewhat glad to be out of her presense. [/blockquote]

She watched him depart, slightly dumbfounded by his response, a confused look flickering over her features. What was with him...Sunstreak had no idea. The ginger warrior mulled over her thoughts for a few minutes, before her confusion turned to anger. Well fine! If he didn't want to be her friend and all he seemed to want to do was ignore her, then that was fine with her! She glared at the ground for a few more moments with furious brown eyes. He could just sneak out and be by himself if that's what he wanted to do. Toms, who needs em, she thought bitterly to herself, before standing up. Brushing the dirt off her red pelt, she realized she didn't know what to do with herself. So much for the confident and able warrior.
