Hailstorm was once a gorgeous she-cat. Her pelt was a stunningly pure white, undisrupted by any other colors. She used to almost radiate, she was so joyous and free. Her beauty was always of a special kind, of both body and soul. Her eyes always sparkled with mischief and intelligence. It was nearly impossible to find her in a bad mood. She carried herself with wispy grace, a special spring to her step. She could never be bothered to do much grooming, when she’d much rather be enjoying life. Thus her fur was always wind-blown and messy. It was just the way she liked it. She never cared much for appearances, nor did she realize just how exquisite she was. To Hailstorm, life was about having fun with those you love, and that was just what she did. But everything changes. And Hailstorm has been distorted by pain and hardship.
Her almost angelic beauty has been disfigured, and scars mar her body, deep and lengthy. Because of the scars, strips of fur are missing and will likely never regrow, leaving her pelt haggard and patchy. However, her long fur does manage to cover most of the scars, making those on her face most visible. One scar runs from her left ear to her lower jaw, another from her left ear to her nose. Another cuts through her left eye, and there is a long scar running the full length of her neck and chest. Her left ear has a notch going halfway through it, and the top half of her right ear is missing. The scars that cover the rest of her body are just as serious, particularly on her left side, but her thick fur generally covers them, even if it is depleted from her disfigurement.
Hailstorm is of average size, with a thin, light build. However, gruesome training and moons as a longer have given her dense, sinewy muscles. While they don’t give her much bulk, she is surprisingly strong for a she-cat of such lithe build. Her legs are long and particularly muscular, giving her frightening speed and agility. Her paws are proportional to her body and have thick, callused pads. Her tail is also very proportional to her body and helps her balance. Her spine is flexible, which contributes to her incredible dexterity. Overall, she has conditioned and trained herself, both voluntarily and involuntarily, to be a fighting machine.
Still her most stunning features, her ice blue eyes still shine, but now with different emotions. Her eyes are bright and breathtaking, particularly now against the rough disfigurement of her face. But it’s in her eyes that the true difference lays. No longer do they glow with elated and impish happiness. Instead they simmer with deeper, desperate emotions that are all that’s left of her. Pain and anger, betrayal and hatred, loss and self-loathing, suspicion and worry; all are reflected in her dazzling orbs. But beneath that hard façade glow warm compassion, yearning desire, strict loyalty, and a sheltered flame of hope. All those emotions mix together and are reflected in her eyes as the desperation of a cat with nothing left to lose.
Hailstorm has more than just scars from her hardships. Her left eye was scratched, and even after healing her vision in that eye is still somewhat blurry. Her right ear has also been damaged to make her partially deaf in that ear. While at first these defects hindered her, she has learned to cope by relying more on scent and even using the vibrations through the ground to help detect larger oncoming threats. Her sixth sense to detect danger has also been heightened so that she can usually tell when there’s trouble.
Although maimed to the point that she’s nearly unrecognizable, Hailstorm still has a unique beauty to her. It is no longer that of cozy, angelic bliss, but of a darker kind. She has the look of a cat that has struggled through suffering but still holds on to hope. She still radiates, now with fierce, determined energy. It takes something special to see that beauty; some may just see a she-cat scarred beyond belief. But no doubt some will see the inner beauty; the beauty of a survivor.

Practices I’ve Mastered------------------------->>
Fighting. Badgers, foxes, rogues, loners, and even one bobcat have all toned her fighting skills. She’s found unique techniques and learned weaknesses of such predators to give her the upper hand. Her muscles have been toned to give her both speed and strength. She is agile and flexible enough to avoid almost any attack launched at her, unless caught off-guard or double-teamed. The one real weakness she has is her left eye. Her impaired vision on that side makes it difficult to focus in on her foes. However, her right eye is quite keen, and her other senses make up quite well for her lack of vision. She manages to hide the fact that she’s half-blind in that eye well, so her opponents rarely know to stay on her blind side. Hailstorm has learned to battle through experience and her skills are quite exemplary. Fighting for her life has made it all necessary.
Running. Hailstorm’s lithe, agile body was made for running. Even before speed became necessary, she was incredibly fast. Now that her muscles have been toned and strengthened for running, she can outrun just about anything and anyone. Not only is she speedy, but she has considerable stamina as well. She can run for hours before needing to stop and can walk for days without sleep. Her pads have become thick and callused from running long distances through rough terrain. Her only problem is that with her speed and half-blind left eye, occasionally she’ll miss an obstacle on the ground or protruding from the underbrush and trip or stumble. But she always gets back up and takes off without missing a beat.

Things I must Improve------------------------->>
Clumsiness. While her appearance seems the embodiment of grace, Hailstorm has always been rather clumsy. And being half-blind in her left eye and half-deaf in her right ear has not helped that. She’s even clumsier now, though her other senses make up partially for the defects. Still, she’s undeniably clumsier now, and sometimes it causes her to stumble while running, hunting, or even fighting. For the most part her clumsiness hasn’t seriously hurt her, but she knows that one wrong fall in the wrong place at the wrong time could result in her death.
Impatience. Hailstorm has never been a patient cat. She tends to be impulsive and act on her emotions more than she should. It has landed her in a number of sticky situations, and she is beginning to realize that she needs to fix this. However, waiting and careful consideration have never come easily to Hailstorm. While she is a fairly clever cat, she simply doesn’t take the time out to think about her actions. After making some calamitous, emotion-driven decisions, she’s making a conscious effort to think about her actions. It simply isn’t working as well as she’d like. But if she could, learning patience could save Hailstorm a lot of strife.

But if she could, learning patience could save Hailstorm a lot of strife.
It’s what’s Inside that Counts------------------------->>
If there’s anything Hailstorm has, it’s personality. Ever since she was young, the she-cat has been a reputed troublemaker. She loves sneaking, joking, making fun, and teasing. No matter how serious, she’ll try to make a situation comical. When she feels oppressed, she instinctively acts up. She loves to talk back to her superiors, but only in a teasing sort of way. Elders, medicine cats, and deputies have all been subjugated to her intense teasings. The only cat she never teases is her leader. She respects her leaders far too much to mess with them.
Hailstorm loves to have fun. It’s one of the reasons she’s so flamboyant and mischievous. She can almost always find a way to have fun. Whether it’s competing, talking, joking, hunting, wrestling, swimming, or just exploring, she’ll keep the mood light and happy. She loves to laugh, and hates to whine. She’ll hardly ever complain, except to get on her elder’s nerves. No matter what she’s doing, Hailstorm will have fun with it. And usually she manages to drag others into her carefree realm.
While Hailstorm is a tease, and she will make fun of others and toss out insults, she never means any harm. Most of it is just poking fun, and she never means to hit a nerve. But sometimes she says just the wrong thing to the wrong cat, and they take it harshly. This is where Hailstorm stumbles. She’s never been particularly good about apologizing. It’s not that she’s too arrogant or proud to apologize, but it’s simply awkward for her. In order to apologize, you must be serious, and seriousness is something Hailstorm has never been good at. Still, she always tries to patch up discord peacefully.
Perhaps as a part of her love for life, Hailstorm always has to be doing something. She hates sitting around idly, and would much rather be hunting or training or at least enjoying herself through some sport. She tends to get restless and antsy when bored. She can’t stand being enclosed in small spaces for long periods of time, and can get slightly neurotic in those situations. She has boundless energy, and as long as she’s up and about, she’ll be just fine.
Hailstorm loves to compete. Whether she wins or not, she enjoys testing her skills against others, and finding ways to improve herself or help others improve. She particularly enjoys winning, but will rarely pout if she loses. Only if she really expected to win and did not will her mood sour, and even then it’s hardly noticeable. She has the bad habit to brag, but usually she’s just teasing and doesn’t really mean anything. No matter when or where, Hailstorm will be up for a competition.
Hailstorm hates feeling useless. Whenever she makes a serious mistake, or is scolded for something she really did wrong, her guilt runs deep. She tends to beat herself up about it, even if she laughs and brushes it off around others. It really hurts her when she hinders others. She likes to feel ‘part of the team’ and like an asset to her clan. When she feels she’s not doing her job, it’s a low blow. On occasion she’ll mope a bit, but usually she counters her failures by focusing on improving herself. She won’t tell others, but she’ll secretly work on training to overcome her faults.
And that brings up Hailstorm’s tendency to close herself off from others. While she seems to be extremely social, and indeed she is, Hailstorm rarely shares her innermost thoughts. When she’s unhappy or in pain, she tends to brush it off, joke around, or simply ignore it completely rather than trying to fix it. She takes care of her problems on her own and hardly ever relies on others to help. She tries not to ‘burden’ others with her issues, and it takes a great toll on her emotionally. She holds everything inside until eventually something happens that breaks her, and she has a sort of emotional meltdown. But she’s never really been able to open her heart to anyone. No matter how she looks at it, she believes being happy and joking all the time is better than burdening her friends with her trivial matters.
Or perhaps it’s not that Hailstorm won’t share her emotions, but that she doesn’t understand them herself. Things like anger, jealousy, hatred, and pride all surprise her. She is often frightened by the darker emotions she feels, and so she tries to hide them away or pass them off as other things, but all it really does is mess with her mind. She distorts her feelings to the point that she can hardly recognize the good feelings anymore. Things like love and companionship are foreign to her and hard for her to name. She hasn’t only closed her heart off to others, but to herself as well. However, she manages to distract herself from her emotional ineptitude by filling her life with feelings of happiness, joy, and mischief. What Hailstorm really needs in life is to look deep within herself and find a way to open up her heart. Or perhaps it was broken long, long ago and she’s yet to put the pieces back together.
