His amber eyes stared down at the ball of moss beneath his paw. He flexed his claws, watching intently as they slid from his paw and caught on the tender down of the nest-moss. Speaking of down, Windrunner even had a present for Snowstorm: bird down he'd found to line her nest.
The whole situation was still a bit awkward. Windrunner felt guilty to think it, but he didn't love Snowstorm. The Praisers were always going on about how they'd all loved their mates dearly before even considering having kits. And yet, here Windrunner was, preparing to share his den with one of his spring-mates. Fireweed never told his mate he loved her, the young tom told himself, his ears tilting back in concentration. If the moss ball had been alive, it would have just died. Windrunner's paw was pushed almost the entire way through it, his claws still flexed.
Fireweed, who'd been Windrunner's Speaker, had shown great respect for his mate, caring for her dutifully. That was one of the biggest reasons Windrunner now felt that Snowstorm would make a perfect mate. She didn't bother much with things like love, and she still served the Druids well. She was an excellent hunter, a pride of several of the Praisers. Windrunner could find no higher honor than to share his den, as well as his life, with that particular she-cat.

Snowstorm was gazing about her former den with her brilliant blue-yellow eyes, though she wasn't seeing anything. She was seeing a new den, of different shape and form, one she had never seen before. Her small form wondered where she would sleep; right next to Windrunner, or just an inch away from him? She didn't love him, she knew that. She barely knew him. Neither one of them were very talkative.
She hoped that she would become more at ease with him, maybe even learn to love him. She didn't know. She bid her den farewell and turned away, knowing that she would never walk back into there in order to sleep. Maybe to reminisce, but not for sleeping, or resting. Her tail flicked behind her as she trotted towards Windrunner's den.
She seemed to arrive all too quickly. Vaguely, Snowstorm wondered what Stoneshifter could be thinking right now, watching over her. Would he approve of her decision? She hoped so, she direly hoped so. She nervously waited just outside of the den, wondering if she should go in, wondering what would happen next, her tail twitching anxiously behind her beautiful and chocolate tortoiseshell pelt.
((Sorry I was so slow, dumb computer froze a coupla times..))

Windrunner was about as lost in his thoughts as a squirrel would be out in the middle of the lake. However, his ears perked up instintively as he heard someone approach. Quickly he stood, flicking his tail nervously. Twitching his whiskers, he stepped towards the den entrance, nearly tripping as he lifted his paw and tried to shake the moss ball off of it. However, the moss ball was avanging its own death. And avenge it, it did.
Windrunner stumbled out of the den and froze, finding himself face-to-face with Snowstorm. His front paw was mid-air, the moss ball clinging to it fiercely. The young tabby felt his ears burn with embarassment.
"Er..." He wasn't even sure what to say. Hello? Welcome to your new home? I got you some moss, but it attacked me? Swallowing awkwardly, Windrunner's whiskers twitched uneasily and he said nothing.

Snowstorm was abruptly taken out of her thoughts and anxiety by Windrunner's sudden appearance, and mirth bubbled inside of her, though she didn't say anything about the moss ball. That would be rude, no matter how funny it was.
She gently placed her paw on the moss-ball, extending her lethal claws and gently tugging it away from his paw. She rolled it to one side and looked around the much-taller Druid to his- well, her- uh, their home.
"C-can I go in?" She asked in her sweet treble of a voice, stuttering nervously at the beginning, as talking was not one of her strong points.
She looked up at Windrunner, unable to meet him eye to eye, as he was much taller than the average Ranger, and she, smaller than the average. She glanced at the moss ball and tried hard to suppress the laughter that bubbled up within her.

Windrunner blinked down at his paw gratefully as she pulled the moss ball away. Part of him was relieved she didn't laugh, but another part of him was slightly disappointed. If she'd laughed, at least the terrible silence, the awkwardness wouldn't last.
"Er, right. Yeah," he said, glancing quickly down at her. It wasn't until now that he realized how smaller she was than him. He backed quickly back into the den and turned around so he could pace the good-sized cave. It was a good den, used by many Druids before him. Fireweed had come by earlier that morning to help him clean it up, swiping their paws over the walls to smooth them and kicking out any pebbles.
Desprate for anything to break the terrible silence, Windrunner snatched up the pile of bird down and set it before her. "I, er, got you something."
))Gah! I love this couple already! x3((

Snowstorm padded in after Windrunner, looking around the cave curiously, her ears perked in wonder. This was a big cave...yet, not too big. She liked it. It was clean and airy, not nearly as small as hers had been. She had planned on making it larger than the Druid before had, yet, she didn't need to anymore.
"Wow." She whispered quietly, walking in a circle to look at the den around her. Then, her reveries were interrupted again by Windrunner. 'I gotta start getting used to having someone else around me.' She thought, before looking at the bird down. She loved bird down, it was so soft and comfortable!
She smiled shyly, looking up at him and saying sincerely, "Thanks. I love bird down." How had he known? Well, bird down wasn't that uncommon for Druids to like, since it was so soft and comfortable.
She whispered it again, rubbing the bird down with her paw lightly, her eyes shimmering with happiness. Finally, this place was starting to feel like home. Little by little.

Surprise lit up his face. Windrunner was shocked to see how much it pleased him to see her happy. He softly surpressed a smile, turning away to hide his grin.
Reaching out one long forepaw, the tabby tom patted down the ball of moss, pushing down into a more nest-like shape. He stopped, though, when a thought came to him. He turned slowly back to her, hoping he wasn't pushing things too far.
"Er... We should, er... celebrate. Want to go hunting? Fireweed said there was a new rabbit warren out towards the Vision-stone." He tried not to look too eager, but he couldn't help but think how much simpler things would be running through the forest. Windrunner adored the feeling of the ground moving swiftly beneath his paws. And, if this she-cat was to be his mate, he wanted nothing more than to share that with her.

Snowstorm watched him carefully, studying the way he moved, wondering why it seemd so familiar..and yet completely new. Her blue-yellow eyes lit up as he made a move to say something, and the idea thrilled her. 'I love hunting!' She wanted to exclaim joyfully, but she restrained herself.
She smiled, a pretty, sweet thing, and she said to him, "I'd love to hunt. It's one of my favorite things to do." Wow, have I ever said that much in one sentence before? She thought back over her life, and she didn't remember saying that many words in one sentence. Weird. She stood, gently shaking her short limbs that were covered in such beautiful and soft fur. She tilted her head to ask, 'Ready?'
That was something odd about Snowstorm. She used actions to speak much more than words, and once you got to know her, as hardly anyone had, you could have a whole conversation with her without opening your mouth. She wondered if Windrunner would ever be able to learn these small motions from her, and if he had any of his own.

This time, Windrunner didn't hide his smile. He flicked his long tail lightly, inviting her to take the lead from the den. While her back was turned, he couldn't help but run his eyes over her pretty fur. There was something spectacular about it; prettier than most Druids' drab pelts. Windrunner's own pelt was nothing special, although certainly useful when stalking just about anything.
Outside of the den, the tall tabby paused briefly to stretch out each of his long limbs, yawning lightly. The sun's early afternoon sun warmed his shoulders pleasantly in the early spring chill. Luckily, all of the snow had melted recently, leaving the ground only a little soggy. It had been alot worse only a few days before.
"S-so, rabbits it is?" he asked lightly, glancing unsuredly down at her.

Snowstorm nodded her head, excitement glimmering in her blue-yellow eyes. She began to trot towards the Vision-stone, and where the new Warren would be. The wind lightly ruffled her fur, and at the gentle touch of its hand, she was reminded by Windrunner.
She felt the impulse to run, though she could never match Windrunner for speed, and looked back at him, the question in her eyes. 'Can we go faster?' She asked, wanting to feel the thud of her paws against the ground. 'Please?'
The soggy ground felt good on her paws. She missed the snow, though terribly, and you could tell by the way she carried herself, the way her tail twitched. If you knew her well enough.

The tabby's long legs found no difficulty in keeping up with her. He was thinking about running right then, imagining Snowstorm keeping pace with him easily, although he doubted she would be able to all the time. He glanced down at her just in time to see the breeze ruffle her pretty fur.
Her eyes met his for a moment and he didn't have to understand her questioning eyes. It was as if the breeze itself had come alive in Windrunner. The ancestors had chosen well when they'd sent Fireweed this particular cat's Ranger name. Now the long tabby let out a cheerful laugh and leapt forward without thinking.
At first, he took off swiftly, long legs going in and out in a rhythmic motion. After a moment, though, he slowed his pace to let Snowstorm catch up with him. They'd be nearing the Vision-stone soon.

Snowstorm felt a rush of elation run through her, felt her heart swell with happiness and pride. Her tail twitched, and she looked up at him, just to see him leap forward with ease, his muscles moving gracefully and his legs pounding the earth swiftly.
Suddenly, she felt it. Pride. She was proud to call him her mate, even though she wasn't sure she loved him. Not yet, anyways. She leapt forward, her short legs hitting the ground in a quicker and yet just as steady pace. Her tail was streaming behind her, and laughter erupted form her, a sudden and beautiful rippling sound. She caught up with him, but knew that her pace couldn't match his for much longer. But she also knew that they would soon be coming upon the Vision-stone, and she didn't want to stop running, not yet.

Eyes wide in excitement and happiness, Windrunner began to slow his pace. Little by little, he began to breath in the deep, moist scents around him, the scents of the forest. The breeze gusted against him again and, suddenly, Windrunner stopped running.
His tabby ears perked up, although it was his nose doing the work. Lifting his head high, the tom breathed in deeply once more. He was sure he'd scented something... But there was nothing unusual about the forest around him now... There was a squirrel in its tree nearby, but Windrunner ignored that for the time being. He was just about to turn back to Snowstorm when the wind rushed past him once more, bringing him the scent he'd caught before.
Something about the smell was very different and yet somewhat familiar. Watching the way the trees moved, Windrunner guessed the wind was coming down off the foothills. It carried the terrible scent of sickness and injury, but also something else. A scent similar to that every Druid wore, yet slightly different.
"Snowstorm, do you smell that?" He turned glancing about for her.
))Do you realize you start every post with her name? ^^ -literally just checked- xD((

((GAH! NO! *runs away from the repetetiveness of it all*))
Slender paws had been treading lightly over the ground, their soft pitter-patter slowing down as the unfamiliary and yet recognizable smell reached her nose as well. Its pink tip twitched, and her whiskers flicked a little, her yellow-blue eyes pondering the scent.
"I...I smell something." She meowed quietly, her tail flicking behind her anxiously. What was that? It was so familiar, and so..so different. Unaware of the fact, she drew closer to Windrunner, in order to protect and be protected. (Though she didn't realize this.)
"It's...it's coming from towards the foothills, isn't it? I mean, the wind just carried it...and...it smells like us...but like death...oh, I don't make any sense." Normally she wouldn't have said nearly as much, but she was confused and befuddled, and so she let herself speak to Windrunner.
After all, they were mates. Right? Shoving the half-statement half-question out of mind, the small Druid padded forward, cautiously, before turning around, towards the smell. She was curious, and you could tell, by another one of her silent signals, her ears pricked, her tail-tip twitching, her pretty chocolate-white paws dancing restlessly against the snow-sodden ground. Her heartbeat was quickening, but not out of fear. Out of curiosity, worry, adrenaline.

Windrunner's eyes widened and he glanced quickly down at Snowstorm before taking a small step forward. "Snowstorm! Snowstorm, it's cats! There are cats on the foothills!" He turned his astonished eyes towards his new mate, dumbfounded.
It was so strange! Druids never went so far as the foothills. It was too far from Horseplace and probably dangerous. Still, there was no doubting it, the scent was of cats, and many. Windrunner could help but wonder if they were like the Druids, because their scents where so similar.
A sudden thought occured to him and he turned back to Snowstorm. "We've got to tell the Praisers! They can send a patrol to find out who they are." He nodded as if to confirm this thought.
