Phantomsun's smile did nothing to raise Hawkshadow's spirits. He did his best to put on a good face, but he felt completely ignored by Phantomsun. She had always been so eager to be around him, but now that she was Deputy, it was like he was just another warrior to keep in line. He didn't talk much, and his whiskers drooped visibly as he padded in the undergrowth. Hawkshadow tried to get his mind off of it while he hunted, but it only made it worse. All the quiet time, away from the constant chatter of other cats he'd grown so used to. It made it almost impossible for him not to think about it. Pouncing on a mouse and adding it to his pile, consisting of another mouse and a small thrush, he picked all three up in his mouth, heading back to the other two. He usually would have buried his catch along the way, but all the thoughts running through his head was distracting him. His eyes narrowed as they looked up at the sky, the sunlight filtering betweein the leaves of the canopy of the forest. Taking in a deep sigh, Hawkshadow tried once again to shake the thoughts out of his mind, adding his catch to Morninglight and Phantomsun's pile, hoping that she didn't catch him looking her way too often. It was almost as if the more she treated him like any other warrior, the more he couldn't stop thinking about her, and the more stressed he became. He was no longer the vibrant, happy-go-lucky cat that he once had been. He looked a bit lean, not really interested in food as much. He would rather give it to the kits, or one of the queens. Cats that needed it more than he did. He went hunting and on patrols more often though, and his muscles grew hard and lean under his fur, standing out even more than usual. But the brightness in his eyes was gone, replaced by an unexplainable sadness that was creeping up on him, slowing taking over his body.[/sup]

Willowpaw nodded back, his thoughts beginning to wander again. What could Silverhawk want to talk to him about? What herbs they should collect? It was probably something simple like that but he wondered if it was something more...Perhaps when he spaced out earlier? He thought of an easy excuse if that was it. He reformatted it in his mind a few times before he decided on something that would prevent any worries. Don't forget to smile. He added. A reassuring smile would certainly make Silverhawk satisfied and the other medicine cat shouldn't press on the situation any more. He shook his head, almost laughing aloud at himself. He was going off fantasizing about the perfect reply when Silverhawk hadn't even said anything to him.
Swifteyes scanned the gathered cats, searching for a familiar grey tom. The thought of her being perhaps too clingy to her mate crossed her mind for only a rabbit-hop. She wanted to spend as much time as she could with him, and she would. The days would be so much busier. Setting up borders, finding a camp, making the camp safer...Surely they'd have to add brambles and such to cover dens? With all the new kits Swifteyes and Chasmstride might get an apprentice, and be even more busy. She frowned at the thought of just barely getting time to spend together, and with no one else.

Phantomsun was prowling the forest again, when a heaviness hit her heart. And it hit her hard, like a crashing wave, crushing her and overwhelming her. She lowered her head, her ears drooping briefly. Tears welled in her eyes, and it was a good thing that nobody was around. She was the only one there, in that part of the forest. She took a couple of deep breaths, and lifted her head, the tears gone. She needed to talk to Hawkshadow, because she knew that something was wrong. But she didn't want to make Morninglight uncomfortable.
Well, this was important. She turned and bounded agilely and quickly through the forest, eyes scanning for a familiar form. She saw him, and skidded to a stop next to him, her eyes curious, and her tail gentle as it stroked his side. She knew that she had to act as Deputy, but it was hard to balance her pathetic personal life and the life that her Clan needed.
"What's wrong?" She asked softly, unable to keep the concern for him out of her sun-brilliant eyes.

While creeping around looking for the next bit of prey, Morninglight realized something between Hawkshadow and Phantomsun needed to be sorted out. Not wanting to interrupt, she focused her emerald eyes on finding the next kill and left them be. Hiding in a bush and waiting for the pitter patter of tiny paws, she wondered if she would ever have someone who would care about her, the way Phantomsun and Hawkshadow cared about each other. Even Lostmoon...well, that was a long time ago, but perhaps her heart yearned for someone to love. No matter now, she needed to focus her energy in helping the clan and helping Beepaw. Love would have to wait.
Beepaw bounded up and down joyfully, eager for something to do. He sprinted out of camp, quick hazel eyes rapidly taking in the surrounding area in search of moss and bedding. Upon finding some, although still slightly wet, he shook it vigorously and hauled his find back to camp. Dropping it near the elder's den and the nursery, he looked around for more to do. With Morninglight gone, he couldn't bug her, and his mentor was clearly busy with his newfound role, he hopped around camp looking for the next grand task.
